Smile, for the Chimera

from Luna Takes Asylum by One Dog Clapping

/

about

Anyone who heard the original might notice that this is a different track to the one that was track two. It was written at the time of the original album, though, and is frankly a much better tune.

lyrics

This is your captain speaking in one of my ever changing voices
I seem to be telling you many things, what you want to believe
Though I talk in code, you can’t really say that you didn’t know
Though my words exposed you can’t really say, can’t really say you’ll never know

Well I tried to look the other way pretend I didn’t hear the sirens
If I keep going the other way where a light might shine for me
And I tried to look the other way but my dead eyes were captured on the camera
And now there is no other way where the siren doesn’t sing to me

Well I watched the rain come down through my glass eye
I tried to swim through the flood but it was just too dark for me
The price of snake oil is taking a dive
The institutions fell into disrepute again

I tried to walk the other way as if the sirens hadn’t sounded
Tried to walk the other way where a light still shines for me
Tried to run the other way with my chains pulled close for comfort
I found there is no other way only where the siren sings to me

Desensitised to the desparate
The desperate are disparate
The desparate are in disrepute
The desperate are in disarray
Desperation diaspora
The desperate are in disproportion
Distance you from the desperate
Distance you from the desperation
Distract you from the desperate
Distract you from your desperation
This contract
Is eternal

So try to run the other way to follow the sound of the sirens
Don’t look the other way there is no light to see
Fight and find some other way you’ll know it when it’s quiet
But now there is no other way does the siren only sing to me?
