The upward way is all around
The dogs of regret whine so they don’t forget
a mournful little song that makes a home inside the head
the dogs of doubt who bark so very loud
build a castle with their howls discourages looking out
the signal in the noise, it’s always in the noise
it’s there to tell us that there’s more to this than noise
the noise distracts, rejects, retracts; the noise diverts, disputes, detracts
the noise surrounds the signal will never be destroyed
What are the pictures we could paint?
what are the songs we could sing?
how could we reflect the light that guides us in this place
what are the patterns we could weave?
what are the tales we could bring?
there are better stories in us let's clear them space
The dream we tried to kill just will not lay still
and it’s always on the edge of our attention
we can feel its beating pulse underneath everything else
suggesting life after distraction
the signal has a better story we can tell ourselves
the signal plays a better song and we can sing it true
the signal makes for better pictures; paint nothing else
the signal is the way that we know what to do
What are the pictures we could paint?
what are the songs we could sing?
how should we reflect the light that guides us in this maze
what are the patterns that we could weave?
what are the tales we could bring?
there are better stories we can tell let's clear some space
What other pictures can we paint?
what other songs lie within?
how should we reflect the light that guides us in this maze
what are the webs that we could weave?
what are the tales we can bring?
there are better stories we can tell let's clear some space
The upward way is all around
